The Spark 1 Person Tent was MEC’s first ultralight tent.
The 1-person Spark is 2.6lbs (1.16kg). The tent is light, constructed from a lightweight nylon mesh and polyester fly.
It is a minimalist tent that great for quick, light summer hiking trips. The mesh top is good for ventilation and keeping things cool, making the Spark a good choice for stuffy summer nights. The super easy setup is a breeze. There’s no need to tie-off on trees, use your poles or anything else complex. This is a free standing tent.
The construction is nylon, with an entirely mesh upper half that’s quite airy and breathable - the very definition of a summer tent. As ultralight simplicity is the name of the game here, there is only one door and no windows. All the seams are taped, which help with waterproofness. The rain fly is polyester and UV resistant. The is tapered, it’s wider at the head end to cut down on weight. The fly has a slider for quickly adjusting
tension in bad weather. It also has reflective zipper pulls, stake out cords and tie backs, reinforcements where poles and fabric meet, and a pair of interior pockets. The poles are DAC Featherlight NSLs, made of T6 aluminum. And the setup uses Jake’s feet in the corners, which helps make setup a breeze with one person. It can be up in just over 2 minutes. The tent packs into a very well designed tent bag with a individual attacked pocket for the included DAC Tent pegs. It also comes with a pole bag that slips inside the main bag. The tent packs down very small, making it easy to pack in the top of your backpack.
This tent has only been used a handful of times (approx. 4 times). The shock cord in the tent poles has been replaced once and is very new.
Unfortunately, as much as I loved the design and functionality of the tent, it just wasn't designed for someone that is 6'3" tall. I only barely fit in the tent.
