The past week has been a bit of a relief as parks and trails start to reopen! Some such areas are;
The Bruce Trail is now over 90% open, excluding the stretch of trail in Bruce Penninsula National Park. The park is not yet open to over night and therefore, that section of the Bruce is much too long to hike in one day, therefore, it is not yet open. But, get out there, and hike the remaining 840kms any time you feel. Bruce Trail is asking that you maintain physical distancing on the trail, and please be patient in some areas as you may run into trail maintenance.
Limited backcountry camping will be available at Ontario Parks, including access points, paddle and portage routes and hiking trails. Those with reservations made for backcountry camping beginning June 1 and onward will be allowed to proceed. Following current provincial restrictions no more than 5 people can occupy a backcountry campsite during their stay, unless from one household. Some closures at particular parks will remain until June 14th. Please visit the Provincial Parks Ontario website (link provided above) for full details. Parks Canada
As of June 1, some Parks Canada places began a safe, gradual reopening of some outdoor areas at national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas. Access includes use of day trails, and day use areas. Group Activities and Public Events are still prohibited until further notice. Camping in National Parks is not permitted until June 21st. Many trails across the Parks Canada Network are closed for public safety, for the protection of ecological or cultural resources, because of human-wildlife interaction concerns, or limited search and rescue capacity. Please respect these temporary closures. Please check the web site to see which trails and/or parks are open (link provided above).
N.A.C. NEWS
(Sunday, June 7, 2020)
Hello again,
And welcome to the Weekly Newsletter. Origionally I started this weekly update to keep emails flowing throughout the Pandemic, but I have decided to continue publishing weekly newsletters and include all kinds of material.
I need your help to decide on a name for our newsletter. Something that compliments the Niagara Adventure Club brand and what we do. If you think you have a great idea for a newsletter title, please reply to the email and let us know what you have come up with.
We are beginning week 12 of the worldwide shutdown, but there is hope. Phase I of the reopening has already taken place in Ontario, and as announced this past Thursday, Doug Ford feels positive that it may be time to launch Phase II.
"I was through all sorts of charts this morning, and overall, things are looking more positive," he (Doug Ford) said during his daily news briefing on Thursday.
"Ford said the question of moving to Ontario's Stage 2 of reopening is now being considered by the senior officials who form the COVID-19 command table. Stage 2 would allow a wider number of office-based businesses to reopen and expand the maximum size of social gatherings that's currently limited to five."

I had planned to restart our day hike events with the beginning of Phase II, which at the time was an educated guess. And as of this announcement, it seems that my schedule will stand and everything will move forward as planned. So, I hope to see many of you at the June 20th hike! If you plan on attending, please be sure to read the New Pandemic Protocols. We have developed these protocols to keep everyone safe. Those failing to comply will not be permitted to take part in Niagara Adventure Club events.
As Always, feel free to reply to this email with any comments or suggestions you may have.
Stay safe,
Lenny Burch
