What Will You Be Doing?

Monday, April 15, 2024:

The Group will meet at Days Inn in Wayneboro, Pennsylvania and check in. After getting settled, we will enjoy a home cooked dinner at a local diner. After dinner, we will head back to the Days Inn where we will prepare our equipment for the 4 day journey ahead and get a good nights sleep.

Tuesday, April 16, 2024:
We will wake and have a good breakfast at the Days Inn before heading to the trail head to rendezvous with our Taxi Service. After a one hour trip to the Northern trail head. We will embark on our 4 day journey into Michaux State Forest. On this day we will need to climb up into the Blue Ridge Mountains and travel 21 kms until we reach our camp site at Ton's Run Shelters. Along the journey we will pass the exact mid-point of the Appalachian Trail and be privy to incredible views across the valleys.

Wednesday, April 17, 2024:
As the sun hits our tents, we will wake to begin breakfast and break camp. After cleaning up dishes and packing everything away, we will begin our second day on the trail. On this day we will complete our longest of the four days, 22kms. As difficult as that sounds, our journey will be rewarded with amazing mountain  views. Our trek will end at the Quarry Gap Shelter, where we will set up camp and prepare dinner. After dinner, a good nights sleep in the fresh mountain air will do us good.

Thursday, April 18, 2024:
Again, we will wake up bright and early, and prepare breakfast. After a good breakfast and breaking camp, we will head back into the mountains and complete another 19kms of the Appalachian Trail. Along our journey we will be astonished by amazing vistas and beautiful lakes within the valleys of the mountains. We will then reach the Tumbling Run Shelter, where we can build a campfire, and sit down around the fire to enjoy dinner after setting up camp. And finally, the day ends with us climbing into a warm sleeping bag and getting a wonderful nights sleep.

Friday, April 19, 2024:
Today we will have a nice short day of only 10kms of trail to complete. After our camp breakfast and breaking camp, we will set out again on the Appalachian Trail, up and over one last mountain, then travelling down the valley and to the completion of our hike. We will then head back to Days Inn for much deserved showers and visit the town of Waynesboro to find a good hearty meal. After our meal, we can visit the sites of the town and enjoy the local community.

Saturday, April 20, 2024:
On this, our final day, we will check out of the hotel and enjoy a homestyle breakfast at a local diner. After breakfast, we will part ways and begin our 6 hour journey home. Those that wish, may stick together on the way home to visit the many small communities we will pass through on our way back to Canada.

NOTES:
As this will be an early spring hike that takes place in a mountain range. The nights will be chilly and we may encounter rain and snow. Proper attire and gear is absolutely necessary, as well as basic skills and knowledge to ensure an enjoyable trip.
